Serology and Molecular Diagnostics

The Laboratory of Serology and Molecular Diagnostics is part of the Food and Veterinary Laboratory (LUV). It deals with the testing of samples received from veterinary inspectors and from licensed private veterinary practices within Kosovo. About 20,000 tests are performed in this laboratory per year. The tests are performed for diagnostic purposes of infectious diseases, animal health monitoring plans at the national level and for the evaluation of the efficacy of vaccines. All methods are subject to quality control. The accuracy and reliability of the results are our main focus, where we give priority to the use of validated and accredited methods.

The number of tests and parameters analyzed is constantly increasing. The laboratory participates annually in proficiency tests organized by the relevant EU reference laboratories and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). The Laboratory of Serology and Molecular Diagnostics is part of the network of European National Reference Laboratories for Brucellosis, Avian Influenza & Newcastle Disease, Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Bluetongue, Classical and African Swine Fever, diseases caused by Capripoxvirus (lumpy skin disease in cattle (LSD), pox in sheep and goats), Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), Q-Fever.
