Food Chemistry Sector, Veterinary Residues and Milk Analysis
In February 2007, within the framework of the LUV, the Milk Quality Control Laboratory began its work, for technological processing whose objective was the Monitoring of milk quality (bacterial units, somatic cells and chemical parameters) for wide consumption in Kosovo, the basis of which was the Administrative Instruction 20/2006 on quality. The laboratory is supported by USAID Projects.
The laboratory is of national importance and presented for the first time in 2007 data on milk quality in Kosovo.
In 2009-2010, the activity of this laboratory began to expand, the first tests for the presence of antibiotics in milk began, and the need arose for the work to continue in another laboratory within the LUV, where later two sectors were formalized as the Food Chemistry and Veterinary Waste Sector and the Milk Analysis Sector.
The Food Chemistry and Veterinary Waste Sector is of particular importance in the control of food quality, contaminants and veterinary waste in food of animal origin and animal feed.
Within the framework of a pilot project, the laboratories of this sector have tested about 1000 milk samples, 200 egg samples and 200 meat samples for the presence of antibiotics.
About 700 samples have been carried out for mycotoxin in milk (AFM1) where with this method the sector has also participated in the proficiency test in 2010 and has achieved satisfactory results. During 2012, methods for physicochemical parameters for testing food of animal origin in accordance with ISO standards were prepared.

Always perform testing in accordance with the methods used in harmony with local and EU legislation.
Strives for customer satisfaction with work and testing quality.
Prepares new working methods in accordance with testing equipment.
Prepares quality policies in collaboration with all sector staff
The objective of the Food Chemistry and Veterinary Waste Sector has been to be able to apply methods to confirm the results tested with the modern equipment it possesses (HPLC, LCMSMS, GCMS).
During 2016-2018, the Food Chemistry and Veterinary Waste Sector has also received support from the Twinning Project, where the focus has been on preparing staff for work with GCMS, HPLC and LCMS as well as Validation of Methods based on Administrative Instruction 13/2016 – Performance criteria for analytical methods – (EU 657/2002).
Thanks to the cooperation with this project, the staff of this Sector has stayed in Germany – Institute for testing food of animal origin.
